If your BMW has reached the point where the front end feels loose, knocks over bumps, wanders on the highway or no longer has that precise BMW steering feel, replacing one worn component at a time can become an expensive game of suspension whack-a-mole.
CAKT6507 Level 2 goes much further than a basic control-arm repair. It refreshes the major lower suspension, steering linkage and stabiliser-link wear components across both sides of the front axle.
The BMW E46 is famous for its steering feel, balance and ability to communicate what the front tyres are doing. But the components responsible for that precision do not last forever.
The control arm bushes age. Ball joints develop wear. Tie-rod joints can loosen. Rack ends develop play. Stabiliser-link joints begin knocking.
Each component can create its own symptom, but when several have aged together the result can be a BMW that simply feels tired, vague and disconnected.
CAKT6507 is designed for exactly that situation.
Please note: Mounting bolts are not included.
These parts do different jobs, but they all contribute to how accurately the front wheels respond to the steering wheel and remain controlled under braking, cornering and uneven road conditions.
The control arms locate the wheels. The bushes control fore-and-aft movement. The inner and outer tie rods transfer movement from the steering rack to the wheel carriers. The stabiliser links connect the anti-roll bar to the suspension.
Wear anywhere in that chain can dilute steering precision. Wear in several places at once can make the entire front end feel tired.
If only one component has been confirmed worn and everything else is healthy, replace only what is required.
But if inspection finds play across the control arms, steering joints and stabiliser links, repairing the complete worn system together can avoid repeated stripping, repeated diagnosis and potentially another wheel alignment a few months later.
The E46 lower control arms are central to front-wheel location and suspension geometry.
Importantly, the ball joints form part of the control-arm assemblies. Replacing the complete left and right arms therefore replaces the worn control arms together with their incorporated articulated joints.
Excessive ball-joint or control-arm movement can contribute to knocking, vague steering and poor wheel control.
BMW owners commonly call the rear control-arm bush assemblies "lollipop bushes" because of their distinctive aluminium mounting brackets.
The nickname sounds harmless. Their job is not.
They locate the rear of the front control arm and resist unwanted fore-and-aft movement under braking and changing road loads.
As the rubber deteriorates, excessive control-arm movement can develop. This is widely associated with steering-wheel shudder, vague steering feel and irregular tyre wear on the E46 platform.
Turning the steering wheel is only the beginning of the steering process. Movement from the steering rack must travel through the inner rack ends and outer tie-rod ends before reaching the wheels.
If those joints develop play, part of your steering input is effectively consumed by looseness before the wheels respond.
Possible symptoms include vague steering, wandering, knocking, difficulty maintaining alignment and unwanted wheel movement.
Stabiliser links, also known as anti-roll-bar links or sway-bar links, connect the anti-roll bar to the suspension.
Their small ball joints operate constantly as the suspension moves. Once worn, they commonly produce a light knock or rattle over smaller bumps and broken road surfaces.
Because CAKT6507 replaces both links, the left and right sides are refreshed together.
Tyres are expensive. A worn front end can make them even more expensive.
Wheel alignment is performed with the vehicle stationary. But the suspension must then maintain that wheel position while the car brakes, corners and travels over bumps.
Worn bushes, ball joints or steering joints can allow unwanted movement under load and contribute to irregular tyre wear or poor directional stability.
CAKT6507 refreshes a large part of the E46 front suspension and steering system, but it does not include the front shock absorbers / struts or their upper mountings.
An E46 old enough to require control arms, bushes and steering joints may also have ageing dampers, upper strut mounts, bump stops and dust covers.
Ask OCP for front shocks and shock mountings for your specific E46 / Z4 before completing the order.
Shock absorbers perform a different job from the control arms and steering joints. They control spring and wheel movement and help keep the tyres following the road surface.
CAKT6507 is comprehensive, but there is no sense installing good new steering and suspension joints around another component that is already visibly worn.
Ask your mechanic to inspect the following while the vehicle is on the lift:
Spend time around long-term E46 owners and the phrase "suspension refresh" comes up again and again.
That is because the E46 is now a mature platform. Many vehicles still on the road have accumulated years of mileage across the same rubber bushes, ball joints, steering joints, dampers and mountings.
Owners commonly discover that replacing one failed component improves the car, but exposes wear elsewhere that had previously been hidden by the general looseness of the front end.
CAKT6507 takes a more systematic approach by refreshing the major wear components across both the lower suspension and steering linkage.
CAKT6507 can address wear in the components included in the kit. It cannot repair a worn steering rack, damaged wheel bearing, worn shock absorber, defective brake component, damaged tyre or rear suspension fault.
That distinction matters because several E46 front-end symptoms overlap.
The best repair starts with inspection, identifies every component with measurable wear and then replaces the required parts as a system.

Suspension and steering components are safety-critical parts and should be installed by a competent technician using the correct BMW repair procedures and tightening specifications.
A professional wheel alignment is required after inner/outer tie-rod and front suspension replacement.
BMW used different suspension and steering components across E46 derivatives and drivetrain configurations. M3 and certain all-wheel-drive / Xi applications use different components from standard rear-wheel-drive vehicles.
If there is any uncertainty, send OCP your complete 17-digit VIN before ordering so that fitment can be checked for your specific vehicle.
Level 2 includes the same control arms and control arm bushes as CAKT6506 Level 1, but adds the inner rack ends, outer tie-rod ends and front stabiliser links for a broader steering and suspension refresh.
The required ball joints form part of the complete control-arm assemblies and are therefore not counted as separate pieces in this 10-piece kit.
Excessive movement in the front control arm bushes can contribute to steering-wheel shudder or instability under braking. Brake discs, tyres, wheels and other suspension components can produce similar symptoms, so diagnosis is important.
Yes. Play in the inner rack ends or outer tie-rod ends can introduce unwanted movement between the steering rack and front wheels, contributing to vague or imprecise steering.
No. Front shocks / struts and upper mountings are not included. Because these components are also common ageing items on older E46 vehicles, OCP recommends having them inspected while planning a Level 2 repair.
Only if inspection shows deterioration or excessive movement. CAKT6507 includes the stabiliser links, but the anti-roll-bar mounting bushes are separate components.
Not automatically. If the dampers are leaking, poorly controlling suspension movement or the upper mountings are worn, however, doing them during the same front-end overhaul can avoid repeating labour later.
Yes. A professional wheel alignment should be performed once the suspension and steering work is complete.
CAKT6507 brings together the control arms, control arm bushes, inner rack ends, outer tie-rod ends and stabiliser links in one carefully structured 10-piece Level 2 repair kit.
The goal is simple: remove wear where it exists, restore accurate front-wheel control and give the alignment technician a solid mechanical foundation to work from.
Before checkout, ask OCP about matching front shocks, shock mountings, bump stops, dust covers and stabiliser-bar bushes if your mechanic has identified additional wear.
